Technically, you can not coupling of two Ethernet cables between them or put them in contact with a team. It is against the identification of the Ethernet, but it will work most likely.

Cat5 = If you propose on constant up to 100 Mbps
Cat5e = If you have the map on the management to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps)
