I do not have a TV with a computer input, and I was eccentric if there was any way I could use the External Monitor port in my laptop to hook it up via some AV cables with an adapter.

What description of laptop do you have? Typically laptops have VGA ports on them, but it might be an HDMI input. HDMI is a set of pins while HDMI looks more like a USB cable.
