The coffin HDD looks like it should work. Most people save the PS3 with an external hard drive that plugs into the USB. That HDD will show exactly the same thing. You must follow this route over using adapter cables.

will both toil or do I need to use the sata cable an turn on my hard drive
I have a 250gb Seagate harddrive

Both will toil, casing makes the satadrive portable tho.
PS3 uses underlying laptop sata drive, no difference in technology.
