Acer Aspire 3000 boots, but touchpad and keyboard stop working at login menu. How can I fix it?

I tried removing the battery, but that did not come into force on the situation.
I also tried starting in safe mode, and it would not approach.
I tried to use recovery discs to restore Windows XP and the drivers but the laptop would not even boot disks.

You need to determine if a hardware problem or software. I guess software.

I think your next Footstep in troubleshooting would be to connect a keyboard and mouse. If it works, then reinstall the drivers.
