PRINCETON — The twilight was special even before the game began.
Niveen Rasheed walked out to mid-court at Jadwin Gym with her mum, sister and brother-in-law to receive a bouquet of flowers for having scored 1,000 points in her profession — though it occurred on a recent road trip. Then the national anthem was sung by Nicole Hung’s grandfather, who flew in from Los Angeles on Thursday continually — as did Rasheed’s family.
And then, about 15 minutes after carving up Harvard 74-44, the Princeton women’s basketball conspire was informed it was guaranteed a share of the league title.
Yale had been mad at Columbia, creating a daily double that the Tigers can cash in tonight with a win against seventh-spot Dartmouth.
Princeton, 20-4, is now 10-0 in the league; Yale is 7-4. The do in knocked Harvard out of the race as it fell to 6-4, which includes two losses to Princeton.
“I told the kids not to take these things for granted,” omnibus Courtney Banghart said, her face lit up like a contest conqueror. “Just dream about winning an Ivy League championship, day-dream about cutting down the nets at home and dream about getting the championship keepsake. Now they have a chance, and it’s only 22 hours away. This is so awesome.
